Online Ordering for Restaurants with Customer Login, Delivery Cities and Opening Hours

Modern Resto lets restaurants activate online ordering with customer login, phone number, address, service cities, opening hours and kitchen dashboard control.

Online ordering should be clear for the restaurant and the customer

A restaurant online ordering system is useful only when the restaurant stays in control. It is not enough to add a "send order" button to a digital menu. The restaurant needs to know who is ordering, where the customer is, whether the address is in the service area, and whether the restaurant is actually open.

Modern Resto handles that workflow directly from the digital menu. The owner can publish a menu, activate online ordering, define the cities where orders are accepted, set opening hours, and receive the order in the kitchen dashboard with the customer details needed to accept it.

Customers must sign in before ordering

When online ordering is active, a customer can browse the menu from the public link. To send an order request, the customer must sign in as a consumer. This protects the restaurant from anonymous requests and gives the team a real customer identity attached to the order.

The customer account is separate from the restaurant owner account. A guest can order from the menu, while the owner and team continue managing the restaurant from the dashboard.

Phone number, address and city are required

Modern Resto asks the customer for the key information the restaurant needs before accepting an online order:

  • Phone number so the restaurant can call or confirm details.
  • Address so the team knows where the order should go.
  • City so Modern Resto can check whether the customer is inside the service area.

If this information is missing, the order cannot be sent. This keeps the kitchen dashboard clean and avoids incomplete online orders that the team cannot process.

The owner chooses the cities served by online ordering

Not every restaurant can serve every city. Some restaurants deliver only in their own town, some cover a few nearby areas, and some use online ordering only for pickup but still want to filter requests by location.

In Modern Resto, the restaurant owner can define the cities where online ordering is available. For example: Paris, Saint-Denis, Montreuil. If a customer chooses a city outside that list, Modern Resto blocks the order and shows a clear message.

This matters because a restaurant online ordering system should not create operational surprises. The restaurant decides its service area first; customers order only when they match that area.

Opening hours control when orders are accepted

Online ordering should not stay open when the restaurant is closed. Modern Resto lets the owner set the days and hours when online orders are accepted. Outside those hours, the digital menu can still be visible, but the order request is paused.

For customers, this is clear: the menu displays an information message explaining that the restaurant is currently closed for online orders. For the restaurant, this prevents orders from arriving when nobody is watching the kitchen dashboard.

The digital menu can stay published even when ordering is closed

Publishing the digital menu and accepting online orders are two different controls. A restaurant can keep its menu visible 24/7 for SEO, Google Business Profile, Instagram, QR codes and customer browsing, while accepting orders only during the configured opening hours.

This distinction is important. The menu is a permanent online presence. Online ordering is an operational feature that should follow the restaurant's real availability.

Orders arrive in the kitchen dashboard

When the customer is signed in, inside an allowed city, and the restaurant is open, the order request can be sent. Modern Resto sends the order to the kitchen dashboard with the customer name, email, phone number, address, city, selected dishes and note.

The team can then take the order, prepare it, mark it as delivered, or manage it according to the restaurant workflow. The goal is not to replace human confirmation; it is to give the team a cleaner way to receive and organize requests.

How to activate online ordering in Modern Resto

  1. Create or edit your digital menu.
  2. Publish the menu so customers can open the public link.
  3. Activate online ordering from the dashboard or editor.
  4. Add the cities where your restaurant accepts online orders.
  5. Set the opening days and opening hours for online ordering.
  6. Share the menu link on Google, Instagram, your website, WhatsApp or printed QR codes.
  7. Watch incoming orders from the kitchen dashboard.

Why this is better than a simple order button

A simple order button can create confusion if it does not check customer identity, address, service city and opening hours. Modern Resto is designed to make the workflow explicit: customers know when they can order, restaurants define where they serve, and the team receives complete information before accepting the request.

That is what a practical restaurant online ordering system should do: keep the menu visible, make ordering optional, and protect the restaurant from orders it cannot handle.

Start with a digital menu, then activate online ordering

You do not need to activate every feature on day one. Many restaurants start with a digital menu and QR code, then add online ordering when the team is ready. Modern Resto lets you move step by step: digital menu first, online ordering next, table ordering and kitchen workflow when needed.
