Why have a PDF menu for your restaurant?
A digital menu accessible via QR code is essential in 2026, but a printable PDF menu remains a valuable tool. Use it to display your menu in the window, share it by email, hand it to customers without smartphones, or create printed menus at low cost.
With Modern Resto, you don't need specialist software or a designer. Your digital menu automatically converts into a printable PDF, faithful to your content — dishes, prices, photos, formulas.
3 layout templates to choose from
Modern Resto's PDF interface offers three distinct templates to match your restaurant's identity:
- Classic — decorative header band, full-width hero photo, two-column layout with dotted leaders. Ideal for traditional brasseries and bistros.
- Compact — clean header with integrated QR code, three-column grid to display as many dishes as possible on one page. Perfect for dense menus or takeaway cards.
- Elegant — centered typography with ornaments, single wide column, optional side photo strip. Designed for gastronomic restaurants and upscale establishments.
Every template is optimized for A4 format and prints correctly on any printer, in black-and-white or color.
Toggle photos on or off
If your printer is black-and-white or you want to save ink, disable photos with one click. The menu stays readable and well-structured, showing only dish names, descriptions, allergens and prices.
Conversely, if you're printing in color, enable photos to showcase your dishes with the images you uploaded in the editor.
Reorder sections
By default, sections appear in the order defined in the editor. In the PDF interface, you can freely change this order — move up or down with the arrow buttons — without affecting your digital menu. Handy for putting formulas first, or starting with drinks on a bar menu.
Automatic QR code on your PDF
Every generated PDF automatically includes a QR code linking to your digital menu. Customers can scan the printed menu to access the interactive version, with photos, full descriptions and smooth navigation.
How to print or save as PDF?
From Modern Resto's PDF interface, click the "Print / Save PDF" button in the sidebar. Your browser opens the standard print dialog. To save as a PDF file instead of printing physically:
- In the print dialog, select "Save as PDF" (or "Microsoft Print to PDF" on Windows) as the printer.
- Verify the paper format is A4.
- Disable browser headers and footers for a clean result.
- Click Save — your PDF menu is ready to share or print.
Tip: sync your PDF with your digital menu
Every time you update your digital menu (new dishes, price changes, new photos), the PDF regenerates automatically from your current data. No need to redo the PDF manually — it's always up to date when you open the print interface.
Conclusion
With Modern Resto, creating a professional PDF menu requires no design skills and takes under five minutes. Pick your template, adjust the display, print. Your menu is ready — in digital and print form alike.
